(Prachanda) wins the House of Representatives election from Rukum East
Rukum East, Nepal — March 6, 2026
Chairman of the Pushpa Kamal Dahal, widely known as “Prachanda,” from the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), has been elected to Nepal’s House of Representatives from Rukum East after receiving 10,240 votes in the parliamentary election.
According to the final vote count, Prachanda secured a comfortable lead over his competitors in the constituency. Lila Mani Gautam of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) finished in second place with 3,462 votes. Kusum Devi Thapa from the Nepali Congress came third with 3,081 votes.
Another candidate, Sandeep Pun of the People’s Progressive Party Nepal, received 203 votes during the election.
Election officials confirmed that vote counting in the constituency has been completed, and the final result is expected to be formally announced by the election office shortly.
Rukum East has historically been considered a strong support base for the Maoist Centre, and the latest result continues that pattern. Prachanda’s victory marks his return to the national parliament and is expected to strengthen his presence in Nepal’s political landscape.
Prachanda is one of the most influential political figures in Nepal and has previously served as the country’s prime minister multiple times. His latest electoral success adds another chapter to his long political career.
